Roleplay Etiquette

2015-03-28

Role-playing is fun, interactive, and engaging. However, sometimes the fun is lost because those playing together forget simple acts of courtesy or don't know how to engage effectively and communicate with their partners.

Here is a brief listing of role-play etiquette subdivided into the different areas. In group we have Game Master and Roleplay Member and in BIO we have Player 1 and Player 2.

Here is a list of the abbreviations:
Game Master = GM ; Roleplay Member = RM ; Player 1 = P1 ; Player 2 = P2;

Group Roleplays
 Game Master:

  1. Have the rules clearly defined in both the in character and out of character threads.
  2. If for some reason you need to abandon the roleplay you created message all the players. See if they would like to continue without you; if so give them the plans you had for the roleplay.
  3. In the event that a new character is created in the out of character thread please introduce the new player to the existing members. This way new life is breathed into every roleplay.
  4. If you are going to create a massively large game please message a moderator or an admin for a sub-forum. This way you can have many little games based around a single plot.
  5. Create an out of character thread and post in it often.

 Roleplay Member

  1. Follow the rule that are laid down by the game master.
  2. If for some reason you need to abandon the roleplay that you are a member of send the game master a private message explaining why. (See the I need to abandon this roleplay form.) Then in the out of character thread explain to the other members that you are leaving and if you want your characters killed off or to become non player characters (NPCs)
  3. In the event you are a new member to a pre-existing group roleplay please introduce yourself in the out of character thread. Be respectful and courteous and explain your character and how you envision your characters place in the roleplay.
  4. Join the out of character thread and post in it often.

BIO Games
 In General

  1. Be respectful of one another's selves and ideas.
  2. Communicate constantly - send each other messages and participate with each other in out of character instances.
  3. If either of you need to abandon the roleplay for a length of time or permanently please message the other member. (See I Need to Abandon this Game form.)
